Mindfulness Writing is a Wonderful Anchor for Your Soul
There's so much noise in the world around us, sometimes it's hard to focus on what your inner voice is trying to tell you.
A practice I use along with yoga and mediation is something I call "Mindfulness Writing."
What is Mindfulness Writing?
Mindfulness is the ability to be fully focused on who we are, where we are and how we're feeling in a moment in time. It allows you to focus on the present. You can use it in a bunch of different ways like calming down when you're feeling stressed, evaluating how your mind and body feels, or simply as a re-calibrating technique to bring you back to center. It's a check-in with yourself to see how you're truly doing. Mindfulness Writing is an extension of this. Essentially, it's a conversation between your present self and your better self on paper. Here's what it looks like:
For me, mindfulness writing is particularly helpful when I'm in a "mood" but I can't figure out what caused it or am having a hard time getting out of it. At this moment in time, I was in a melancholy state I couldn't shake. On one hand, I talk from where I am at that moment. How I'm feeling and thinking on an emotional and mental level. On the other hand, I allow my better self -- the person I strive to become -- respond. This version of me is more objective and is able to separate feelings from actions that need to be taken. Inevitably, I discover answers to dilemmas, stessors and questions within myself. All you have to do is make time to listen.
So pick up a journal or notebook and have a conversation with yourself today. It may seem a bit strange at first, but the more you do it, the more natural it becomes. As you fill in the pages of your notebook, you'll discover that you're a lot stronger, and smarter, than you often give yourself credit for.
